The City Attorney's Office has two sections,
the Criminal Division and the Civil Division.
City Attorney: 928-453-4144 City Prosecutor: 928-854-4388
Civil:
The Civil Division provides legal counsel and advice to the City
Council, staff, boards, and commissions. As required by the
provisions of the city code, the City Attorney drafts or reviews all
contracts, agreements, resolutions, and ordinances under
consideration by the City Council to ensure that they adequately
protect the legal interests of the City. Other responsibilities
include protection of the City's existing and future water supplies,
identification and acquisition of additional water supplies as
needed, and coordination of the City's representation in legal
proceedings.
Criminal:
The
Criminal Division is responsible for prosecuting all misdemeanor
criminal offenses that occur within the city limits, violations of
the city code and all appeals from the Municipal Court to the
Superior Court. The prosecutor also acts as legal advisor to the
Police Department.
The Criminal Division also has Victim Assistance Program to provide
advocacy for misdemeanor crime victims. Victims of misdemeanor
crimes that occur within Lake Havasu City limits are provided with
victim's rights information by the Police Department and
forwarded to the prosecutor. If you believe you are a victim of a
misdemeanor crime being prosecuted by the City Prosecutor, and your
address as listed on the police report is incorrect, or you have
moved, or someone at the address might intercept your mail, please
contact the office and let us know.
Advocates are available to explain the judicial system, act as a
link between the prosecutor and the victim, give case information,
make referrals for social services, provide transportation to court,
and escort victims while they testify or appear at hearings and
assist in obtaining Orders of Protection or Injunctions against
Harassment.
