PUBLIC EDUCATION SERVICES
The Lake Havasu City
Fire Department offers a wide range of fire and life safety
classes with the community’s safety in mind. The positions
that provide these programs are two public education
specialists (NFPA Educator II and III). These educators are
full-time employees, and with their combined effort,
instruct approximately 900 classes each year.
The ages of program
participants range from preschool to senior citizens.
Classes are conducted in various settings, such as schools,
businesses, churches, community events, etc. Below are brief
descriptions of a few of the programs that are available:
-
Basic First Aid
- American Safety & Health Institute approved classes
that give a review about what you can do in a medical
emergency before professional help arrives. A card of
completion is given to participating students. Fee -
$5.00 per person.
-
CPR/AED -
American Safety & Health Institute approved classes for
adult and pediatric victims. A card of completion is
given to participating students. Fee - $10.00 per
person.
-
T.Y.K.S. Child
Safety - teaching parents/guardians how to be more
aware of hazards in the home that could lead to
accidents involving children.
-
Fire Safety in
the Home/Business/Assembly - lessons in fire
prevention, fire extinguishers, fire escape plans,
disaster preparedness, etc.
-
Safety Lessons
for Scouts - various programs to meet the requirements
of specific badges.
-
Fire Safety for
Senior Citizens - a program specifically designed for
the safety of senior citizens.
-
Juvenile Fire
setter Program - classes for children who have started
fires or have an interest in fire. The children are
taught about burn injuries and safe behaviors. We also
instruct the parents how to keep their home safe from
such activity. (This program is taught one-to-one, not
in a group setting.)
