WHEN CAN I APPLY?
Lake Havasu
City will only accept applications
for open positions, which is any
position that a job bulletin has
been prepared for and we are
actively recruiting. We do not
accept general applications for
positions that aren't open. The job
bulletin will give you all the
specifics about a particular job
that we're recruiting for, including
the required experience and
training, licensing requirements and
special certifications that may be
required. It will also give you an
opening and closing date. You must
be certain that your application is
received on or before the closing
date of the recruitment in order to
be considered.

HOW DO I APPLY?
You can
download our recruitment bulletins,
job descriptions and our application
on line by selecting and clicking
the icon of the job that you're
interested in. You can download in
PDF format to view and print, or you
can save the application in your own
Excel file and fill it out on your
computer. Important: while we have
included our application on our web
site for your convenience, we do not
accept applications through
electronic transmission. We require
an original application with your
original signature. Please do not
attempt to e-mail an application to
us; it will be rejected. Drop the
application off at City Hall or mail
it to us on or before the
recruitment closing date.

YOU CALL THIS AN
APPLICATION? - IT'S A BOOK!
Ok, you're
right. We ask for a great deal of
information on our application.
Don't be intimidated! In order for
your application to receive the
consideration it deserves, it's
extremely important that you fill
the application out completely.
Remember, we determine your
qualifications for the position that
you're applying for by the
information that you give us. Your
application is a reflection of you.
The more effort you put into it the
better position we're in to evaluate
it. You can include a resume, but
only as a supplement to the
application. Do not substitute
information we ask for on the
application with the statement 'see
resume'. We encourage you to read
the instructions on the application
itself before you fill it out.

CAN I APPLY FOR
MORE THAN ONE POSITION WITH THE SAME
APPLICATION?
We're sorry,
but a separate application, with
original signature has to be
submitted for each position that you
want to be considered for. You can
photocopy your application before
you submit it to us (sorry, but
Human Resources does not supply
copies once they've been turned in)
and change the 'position applied
for' and 'recruitment number' if you
like, but because we evaluate you're
your training and experience based
on each position we're recruiting,
you may be selling yourself short by
taking this shortcut.

NOW THAT I'VE
APPLIED, WHAT'S NEXT?
You'll receive
an acknowledgement letter from Human
Resources verifying that your
application was received. After the
initial acknowledgement, only those
applicants selected for further
consideration will be contacted. Due
to the large volume of applications
received, we aren't able to respond
to those who are not selected for
further consideration. If you're not
one of those selected, try not to be
discouraged. It's a competitive
process, and sometimes it's tough
out there.
The actual
selection process will vary from
recruitment to recruitment depending
on the position. Some may only have
an application screening and
interview process. Others may
require written exams to test your
knowledge and skill. Some may
require participation in an oral
board examination, physical
abilities assessment (police and
fire positions), polygraph exam (for
police department positions) or
other examination. The selection
process is typically determined at
the beginning of a recruitment
process by Human Resources and the
hiring department. Lake Havasu City
supports a drug and alcohol free
workplace. Any person who is offered
a job with Lake Havasu City is
required to successfully pass a
drug/alcohol screening, as well as a
local background and FBI fingerprint
identification. Some positions also
require a medical examination. Any
employment offer we extend is always
contingent on successful completion
of post-offer employment processes.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT
TO HEAR IF I'M BEING CONSIDERED FOR
A JOB?
There's no 'one
size fits all' answer to this
question. It really depends on the
type of recruitment it is and how
many applications we've received.
Once we've completed our initial
screening and testing process (if
applicable), the applications of all
qualified applicants are forwarded
to the hiring department, who
selects candidates for interview
consideration. In some cases this
can take up to several weeks, so
please be patient. We know you're
anxious, and we're committed to
having a process that's as smooth
flowing as possible for all
concerned.
