MEDIA RELEASE: for immediate distribution

Garage Fire 3580 Beechwood Drive

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007, Lake Havasu City Fire Department Dispatch received a 911 call for a fire in a garage of a residence located in the 3500 block of Beechwood Drive. A police officer confirmed smoke in the area just a few moments after the call. The first arriving fire unit reported a working fire in the garage. All residents had safely evacuated the home prior to the Fire Department arriving along with the family cat. Fire crews were able to quickly contain the fire in less than six minutes with extinguishment in less than eight minutes.

Three fire engines, one ladder truck, a battalion chief, and four support units responded. There were no injuries reported at this time. The fire was contained to the garage and did not extend into the living area of the residence. The cause of the fire was due to discarded cooking material. The loss is estimated at $ 55,000 to contents and the structure.
