LHCPD Initiates Theft Prevention, Recovery
Program for Construction Industry
The Lake Havasu City Police
Department is introducing its Construction Identification Number (CIN) Program to
identify and recover property lost or stolen from construction sites. The program is available to construction companies
free of charge.
Companies enrolling in the
CIN Program are assigned an identification number by the Lake Havasu City
Police Department, which is placed on equipment, tools and other property by
the owner. The company selects a color
to identify their property and provides a sample to the Lake Havasu City Police
Department. Registered colors and their
accompanying identification numbers are entered into a database at the Lake
Havasu Police Department for use in tracking and identifying stolen property.
“The primary benefit of this
program is returning stolen or lost property to participating firms,” said
Lieutenant Richie Sloma. “This program
is really a partnership between the police department and the local
construction industry. It allows us to
quickly identify recovered property and return it to its rightful owner.” Sloma added that investigators often locate
construction tools and equipment when making routine traffic stops, conducting
investigations, serving search warrants and while checking pawn shops and
second-hand stores. “Local pawn shop owners
are very pleased about this program,” Sloma added.
Construction company owners
wishing to participate in this free program should contact the Lake Havasu City
Police Department for an application or call the Investigations Bureau at (928)
680-5210.
