FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 11, 2007

Residential Duplex Fire

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday, a neighboring resident reported a car on fire under a carport at 3040 Caliente Dr.  First arriving fire units reported the fire had spread to the residence.  Fire crews made entry into the residence but were forced out by the flames.  Battalion Chief James Whitt determined the fire was too dangerous to continue efforts inside the residence.  Fire crews then used exterior hose lines and master streams from engines and ladder trucks to bring the fire under control at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday.  A transformer was blown near the fire, interrupting power to nearby residents.

Five fire engines, one ladder truck, one rehab unit and a command vehicle responded to the fire.  Additional firefighters were called in to cover the city.  A Desert Hills Fire engine covered the city until recall crews were in place.  One firefighter was treated and released for heat exhaustion.  All occupants were safely evacuated from the structure without injury.  The Red Cross assisted the displaced resident with clothing and personal needs.  The residents were able to find housing with family and friends.  The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
