FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Man trapped/burned in Off-Road Vehicle Accident
Sunday
morning, September 30, 2007, at approximately 9 a.m., a collision occurred
between two vehicles traveling southbound in the 3000 block of McCulloch Blvd. One
of the vehicles was a Polaris Ranger off-road vehicle. The Polaris Ranger was
carrying a gas can with approximately 5 gallons of fuel. The collision caused
the Ranger to roll on its side spilling fuel and causing the vehicle to burst
into flames. The driver was apparently trapped and unable to release the seat
belt and free himself from the vehicle. Witnesses stated the driver of the
second vehicle involved in the incident risked his own life to free the trapped
victim and move him away from the burning vehicle, quite possibly saving his
life. The Polaris Ranger was totally destroyed in the accident with a loss
estimated at over $11,000. The 16-year old driver of the second vehicle was not
injured in the accident. Lake Havasu Police Department is investigating the
accident. The driver of the Polaris Ranger was flown to University Medical
Center by Native Air
medical helicopter. The patient suffered second and third degree burns to
approximately fifty percent of his body. His condition is unknown at this time.
