Mayor Nexsen Appointed to State
Commission
Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano
has appointed Lake Havasu City Mayor Mark Nexsen to a seat on the Arizona
Municipal Tax Code Commission. Nexsen
will serve a three-year term on the Commission, joining eight other appointees
from other municipalities and one non-voting member from the Department of
Revenue. The Governor appoints five
members, with the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of
the Senate each appointing two.
The Municipal Tax Code Commission
reviews and comments on proposed changes to the tax code as submitted by any
city, town, or taxpayer in the state. Changes
proposed may include modifications or exemptions to the list of items subject
to state and local sales tax. The
Commission also prepares and presents an annual report to the Governor, the
Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate by
January 1.
In a letter notifying Mayor Nexsen
of the appointment, Governor Napolitano stated, One of the satisfactions of
holding office is the opportunity to recognize outstanding citizens by naming
them to positions of leadership within our state government. The state of Arizona and I are fortunate that
you have agreed to be appointed as a member of the Municipal Tax Code
Commission.
It is an honor and a privilege to
serve on the Commission, said Mayor Nexsen.
I will make every effort to use my 30 years of experience as a
Certified Public Accountant to enhance an already highly qualified Commission.
