Police Department to Host Third “Citizen Police
Academy”
Lake Havasu City Police Department Chief Dan Doyle has announced plans to host the third
session of the Citizen
Police Academy
starting on Monday, February 4, 2008. The Citizen
Police Academy
is a 12-week program designed to give Lake
Havasu City residents an inside look at law
enforcement in their community. Participants will develop a basic understanding
of how the Police Department functions as an organization as well as gaining
insight into the daily decisions officers must make and the reasons behind
those decisions.
The Academy includes courses on patrol operations, firearms,
use of force, proactive policing, drug recognition, and other law enforcement
topics. All classes are taught by LHCPD personnel. There will also be tours of
the Police Department, the opportunity to ride with an officer on patrol, and
other hands-on training.
Citizens eligible to apply for the Academy must be Lake Havasu City residents
and 18 or older. Participation in the Academy includes a commitment to attend all training sessions. The Citizen Police Academy
is scheduled to start on Monday February 4, 2008 and will run for 12 weeks.
Class will be held every Monday, except President’s Day February 18th, from
6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Police Department, 2360 McCulloch Blvd. There will be 11
weeks of instruction with a culmination dinner on Monday, April 28th. There is no cost to participate in the Citizen Police Academy.
Applications can be obtained at the front desk of the Police
Department between 6:00 am and midnight, 7 days a week. The Academy is limited
to 30 participants and all applicants will have to pass a limited background
check.
