LHCFD responds to three structure fires in nine-hour period

The Lake Havasu City Fire Department responded to three separate structure fires in a nine hour period on Thursday, January 25.  The first was called in at approximately 2:20 p.m. at 2590 San Juan Drive by the occupant who was alerted by a smoke detector.  Fire crews found a garage fire and were able to gain control within 21 minutes.  One person was home at the time and was able to get out safely.  The fire was contained to the garage with damages totaling approximately $20,000.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Three Engine Companies, one Truck Company and a Battalion Commander responded to the fire totaling 16 firefighters.  One Desert Hills Fire Dept. engine also responded to the fire and another moved up into the city for coverage due to multiple calls at the time of the fire.

The second fire was reported at approximately 3:40 p.m.  Firefighters arrived to find a small fire in a walk-in closet at 3002 Jamaica Ct.  The occupants all got out safely without injury.  The fire was under control within 17 minutes and was contained to the closet.  The fire started from clothing touching a hot light bulb and caused an estimated $1,000 in damage.  Four Engine Companies, one Truck Company and a Battalion Commander totaling 20 firefighters responded to the scene.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., occupants at 649 Aloha Dr. discovered a fire in the garage after smelling smoke.  The two occupants were able to get out safely without injury.  17 firefighters manning three engines, one truck and a battalion commander were able to contain the fire to the garage and had the fire under control within nine minutes.  The fire was started by smoking materials in a trash can and caused an estimated $5,000 damage.

In all three cases, the occupants were able to occupy their homes for the night.
