The
Communications Division is separated into two areas: the 9-1-1
Emergency Dispatch Center and the Computer Operations side.
Computer
Operations include complete network services for all computers
in use within the Police Department and that connect to any
outside source, i.e. other City computer databases, and the
State (ACJIS) and Federal (NCIC) criminal databases.
The Police
Department uses HTE for police records and computer aided
dispatching (CAD) software for all police day-to-day data
capture and retrieval. Officers in vehicles are equipped with
Panasonic ruggedized, laptop computers to complete field
reports, and remotely upload the reports over radio frequency
back to the police station for immediate access by all. Officers
also have the ability to do all criminal database, driver's
license and registration checks from the laptop in the field.
Emergency 9-1-1
Dispatch Center services include dispatching for both fire and
police emergency services throughout the city. The dispatch
center is equipped with new 9-1-1 Tel Control Inc. (TCI)
enhanced 9-1-1 telephone equipment for automatic number and
address display to the dispatcher.
The dispatch
center employs 12 full time dispatchers and 1 dispatch
supervisor as well as several part-time positions. The 5
dispatch consoles are normally manned by 3-4 dispatchers at any
time working 4-10 hour shifts in a work week.
Dispatchers
annually handle over 50,000 requests for police services.
Lake Havasu City is still able to operate under a dispatch
philosophy of full service to the community. This simply means
you can expect personal attention with an officer responding to
your door whenever you call rather than just a phone call back
or a delayed response.
