Mayor Mark S. Nexsen joined other mayors nationwide in the Wyland National Mayor’s Water Conservation competition called “My Water Pledge,” and challenged Lake Havasu City residents to make a long-term commitment to manage water resources more wisely and to pledge to conserve water, energy, and other natural resources through a series of informative, easy-to-use pledges.

Residents from more than 4,800 cities across 38 states took part in the challenge, by pledging to save over 2.2 billion gallons of water over the next year. The annual month-long campaign to promote drought resiliency and water quality ended on April 30 with mayors vying to see whose city could be the nation’s most “water wise.” The cities with the highest percentage of residents making pledges during the campaign included Laguna Beach, California; Flagstaff, Arizona; Athens, Georgia; Aurora, Colorado; and Dallas, Texas. 

Lake Havasu City placed 8^th in the 30,000 to 99,999 population category; the highest rank Lake Havasu City has achieved over the past three years of competing. Mayor Nexsen is thankful for the community’s participation and eagerness to pledge. “I joined this campaign to encourage awareness and remind residents of the importance of water conservation. Water is one of the pillars of the Vision 20/20 Revitalization Plan and is critical to protecting public health, the economy, and the environment. I want to thank and congratulate this community for being a community that cares about our most precious resources.
