DEATH INVESTIGATION
September 06, 2019

On August 29, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Lake Havasu City Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2900 block of Green Acres Drive in reference to a welfare check for a female who went to the residence to recover property and had not returned home. Upon further investigation, a male and female were located inside the residence, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

Detectives with the Lake Havasu City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.  The female victim, 42-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Keri L. Malkiewicz was in the process of separating from her husband, 53-year-old suspect Daniel J. Malkiewicz. Keri had gone to the home to retrieve some of her personal property. It appears that Daniel shot Keri with a handgun during this time while both of them were inside the residence.  Daniel then took his own life with the same gun.

Blood located at the end of the driveway as reported by local media was not from the victim or suspect.  The blood was from a dog at the location who suffered a minor injury during a rescue performed by a Lake Havasu City Animal Control Officer.  The dog has since been returned safely to a family member.

The case remains active and an autopsy is pending.
