The Lake Havasu City Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration and holding the annual Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday April 24, 2021. This one-day event will make it convenient for the public to rid their homes of potentially dangerous prescription drugs. Between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., residents in the Lake Havasu City area will be able to drop off their expired, unused, and unwanted pills at a drop-off location in front of the Lake Havasu City Police Department free of charge. The Police Department address is 2360 McCulloch Boulevard North.

The program is anonymous and there will be no requests for identification to dispose of medication. Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing medication from its container and disposing directly into the disposal box. Please remove any personal identifying information from original containers. No liquids, needles, sharps, or inhalers are to be disposed of during this event.  

The Lake Havasu City Police Department has a drop box in front of the police department that is available 24-hours a day for disposal of unwanted medication. The drop box does not accept needles or sharps. 

Properly disposing of the expired, unused, and unwanted pills will help prevent drug abuse and theft. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
