MAYOR SHEEHY SEEKS CITIZEN SUPPORT FOR 2019 NATIONAL MAYOR CHALLENGE FOR WATER CONSERVATION
April 04, 2019

Lake Havasu City takes pride in both the preservation and conservation of natural resources, and supports the influential mission of the Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation. As a desert community located along one of the most endangered rivers in the United States, we recognize the immeasurable importance of water conservation not only for our City, but also for the millions of Americans that depend on the limited, precious resource that sits in our backyard; the Colorado River.

The National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation is a nationwide contest in which cities of similar population sizes compete against each other to have the highest percentage of their population pledge to save water. Lake Havasu City citizens are encouraged to join Mayor Sheehy in taking the pledge to save water at mywaterpledge.com on behalf of Lake Havasu City between April 1 through April 30.

The pledge itself is a short survey that informs citizens about actions they can take to reduce large amounts of water consumption. Each small, individual pledge to save water is compounded to a city-wide scale, and encourages the stewardship necessary to ensure that sustainability practices are instilled for generations to come.

Last year, Lake Havasu City placed 3rd in its population category which was the highest placement the City has received to date. This year, Mayor Sheehy hopes to see that number reach 1st place to show the Nation that Lake Havasu City recognizes the need to conserve water, and that we as a City support actions to decrease our pressure on the Colorado River water supply. By pledging to save water, citizens not only unite for a great cause, but citizens are entered to win hundreds of prizes including $5,000 for your home utilities, and a Toyota RAV4 hybrid for a deserving charity in Lake Havasu City. Please join Lake Havasu City to conserve water.
