MOHAVE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION
October 13, 2020

The Lake Havasu City Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on October 10, 2020 in Kingman, AZ.

At approximately 10:42 P.M. deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check in the 4200 block of Irving St in reference to a suicidal male subject.  The male subject, 29-year old Kingman resident Shawn M. Campbell, had been in an argument with several family members and fired multiple gunshots.

When deputies arrived on scene, Campbell fired his weapon at one of the deputies and retreated back into his residence.   The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to the scene and attempted to communicate with Campbell.    After a period of time, there was an exchange of gunfire between Campbell and four MCSO SWAT officers.

It was unknown during the exchange if Campbell had been injured by the gunfire.  The MCSO SWAT team continued to try to communicate with Campbell.  During the standoff, a single gunshot was heard from inside the residence after a few more hours.   Campbell was later found deceased inside the residence from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing.  It is protocol to have an outside agency investigate an officer-involved shooting incident. Four MCSO officers who discharged their weapons are currently on administrative leave, which is also customary in an officer-involved shooting incident.
