As Chief of the Lake Havasu City Police Department, I want to welcome you to our website.

It is a distinct honor for me to serve the City of Lake Havasu as your new police chief. This is a wonderful community full of hardworking and very caring citizens. I am so happy to be a member of this community and to serve the public safety needs of our residents and businesses.

The mission of the Lake Havasu City Police Department is to ensure a safe and secure community. But, we cannot do this alone. This is why partnerships between the police department professionals and our citizens is paramount in preventing and solving crime, and maintaining order in a manner that promotes public trust and confidence. Every citizen plays a role in our success and coordinating our efforts will solve problems. My role in realizing this mission is to serve as a leader that exemplifies the moral principles and professional excellence I swore to uphold when I joined the department more than 25 years ago.

It is equally important that our department protects the residents of Lake Havasu in a way that reflects courtesy, civility, and respect. Preserving the rights and freedoms of all residents is an organizational mandate. For this reason, I am committed to leading by example and to holding my staff, and myself, accountable to a standard of selfless service to our community.

Our goal is to remain a highly respected and professional Police Department that serves as a model for our region and state. We will achieve this by maintaining high ethical standards, state accreditation, strong relationships with community stakeholders and innovative approaches to keep Lake Havasu a safe place to live and play.

Our Police Department is only as strong as its officers and professional staff. Lake Havasu is lucky to have some of the finest public servants in the region. Through the dedicated and hard work of all of us we will continue to make Lake Havasu safe for families and businesses to thrive.

Please review the various programs that are part of this site and if you have comments or questions, I encourage you to contact us or leave us a message. I look forward to working together to create a safe and secure environment for the citizens and guests of Lake Havasu City.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department would like to congratulate and welcome Jake Spellman, Kial Melendez, Savannah Kloewer, and Tara Flagg, four new recruits who recently graduated from Class #23 at the Western Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy (WALETA) in Lake Havasu City on Friday, December 14.

A total of 19 recruits graduated from the Academy, representing not only the Lake Havasu City Police Department, but also the Kingman Police Department, Bullhead City Police Department, Wickenburg Police Department, Yuma Police Department, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office.

The 20-week, or 797-hour, training course is comprised of topics ranging from ethics and professionalism to community policing, introduction to criminal and traffic law, firearms, defensive tactics, vehicle operations and physical conditioning.

WALETA opened in October 2007 and is accredited by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST).   WALETA’s mission is to provide basic training for Arizona peace officers in accordance with the rules established by AZPOST.  Additional information about the Academy can be found at WALETA.org.

These officers will now go through a 16-week field training program where they will partner with and receive additional training from Lake Havasu City Police Department Field Training Officers.

If you are interested in becoming a police officer, the Lake Havasu City Police Department holds four testing sessions each year.   Additional information about the department and the 2019 testing dates can be found at www.lhcpd.com.
