FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION
July 19, 2023

On Monday, July 17, 2023, at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department responded to a crash involving a semi truck and a pedestrian on SR95 at McCulloch Boulevard South. During the investigation, it was determined that a semi truck and Nissan SE truck were both traveling Northbound on SR 95 from Parker, Arizona. As the semi truck was approaching the McCulloch Boulevard South intersection coming into Lake Havasu City, the driver observed the Nissan parked in the right through lane approximately 200 feet South of the traffic signal. The operator of the Nissan was outside of his vehicle standing in the roadway to the left of his vehicle and the semi truck driver had to reduce speed and move to the right turn lane to avoid a collision.

While the semi truck was slowing down, the operator of the Nissan, identified as 32-year-old Garry Dowse from Chino, California, jumped onto the driver’s side of the semi truck and began hitting the driver’s window in a hostile manner. The semi truck operator was slowing down and moving left into the right through lane when Dowse fell from the semi truck to the roadway, and underneath the semi trailer. As the semi truck and trailer continued to slow, Dowse was underneath the trailer when he was struck by the rear axle tires and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Crash Investigation Team responded to the crash scene to conduct the investigation. The Arizona Department of Transportation was notified, and SR95 between McCulloch Boulevard South and Dub Campbell Parkway was closed for several hours as a result. The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crash investigation is encouraged to contact the Lake Havasu City Police Department at 928-855-1171.

The decedent’s family has been notified.
