LHC PARKS & RECREATION FIELD ACCESS IS IN FULL SWING, SUPPORTING ALL YOUTH ATHLETICS
January 29, 2026

Lake Havasu City’s Parks and Recreation Department is committed to supporting youth athletics and ensuring equitable access to athletic fields for leagues and organizations throughout the community.

Lake Havasu City serves approximately 460 Little League players across 42 teams and currently utilizes nine athletic fields located throughout the city. These include fields at SARA Park and Dick Samp Memorial Park, which are scheduled for use four days per week, the Oro Grande school field, which is used six days per week, and designated open space at Jamaica school to support additional practice and programming needs.

Additionally, the Parks and Recreation Department coordinates athletic field use for 14 different user groups while balancing field availability, maintenance requirements, and overall community demand. While athletic field space is finite and scheduling can be complex, the Department works collaboratively with all user groups to ensure each league has the opportunity for a successful season.

To promote consistency, transparency, and equity in athletic field access, the Department has implemented a new Athletic Field Use and Allocation Policy and Procedure. This policy establishes a clear, structured process for submitting, reviewing, and scheduling athletic field requests.

Athletic field allocations are evaluated using established criteria designed to maximize community benefit and responsible use of City facilities. Considerations include participation levels, equitable access, historical compliance with field use guidelines, field suitability, type and frequency of use, and flexibility in scheduling requests. This approach allows the Department to balance demand, reduce scheduling conflicts, and ensure athletic fields remain safe, accessible, and sustainable for all users.

Lake Havasu City values youth sports and the positive role they play in strengthening families and building community. The Parks and Recreation Department appreciates the continued partnership of local leagues, volunteers, and residents as it works to support robust participation and high-quality recreational opportunities citywide.
