RESIDENTIAL HOUSE FIRE
July 31, 2023

At approximately 8:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 29, 2023, a fire was reported by multiple 911 calls in the 3800 block of Bluegrass Dr.  The callers stated they heard an explosion and the front of the residence was on fire.  The first arriving fire company reported heavy smoke and fire to the front of the residence. Multiple explosions occurred due to venting oxygen tanks in the residence.

Four LHCFD Engine Companies, one Desert Hills (DHFD) Engine Company, one LHCFD Truck Company, one LHCFD Medic Unit, one AMR Ambulance and a Battalion Chief responded to the fire and gained control of the fire in approximately 30 minutes.  One occupant of the residence was home at the time of the fire and suffered minor smoke inhalation. There were no other reported injuries to the occupant or firefighters however on the primary search of the residence one family dog was found deceased due to the fire.  Multiple Firefighters were evaluated due to the extreme heat and released back to work at the scene.

LHCPD responded to provide assistance and traffic control and LHCFD CERT responded with multiple members to assist with Rehab duties for the firefighters. Off duty LHCFD Firefighters were recalled back to assist with other 911 calls during the incident. At the time of the press release fire crews, one investigator and the Fire Marshal were still on the scene investigating and conducting salvage operations. The cause of the fire is unknown currently.
