Blue Grama Grass
BLUE GRAMA GRASS
Bouteloua gracilis

Blue Grama Grass is also commonly known as Mosquito Grass due to its dainty flowers (which look like insects hovering over the foliage) held horizontally like small purple flags on stems that rise above the foliage in early summer and hold seed heads into fall. After establishment this grass tolerates low/infrequent watering, prescribed burns, extreme cold and thrives even when exposed to grazing.
