Centennial Broom
CENTENNIAL BROOM
Baccharis sarothroides 'Centennial'

This tough evergreen is a hybrid between Coyote Bush, Baccharis pilularis and Desert Broom, Baccharis sarothroides. Centennial Broom is extremely heat and drought tolerant, an excellent choice for low maintenance areas, and useful for erosion control on slopes and tough sites where it requires full sun and little water once established.

If the shrub becomes woody, prune in the winter. Limiting water after the plant is established encourages dense growth. It is recommended to only use prostate cultivated varieties in urban landscapes as the wild type, although a desert native, has a highly invasive nature, can spread like a weed, and is difficult to eradicate due to its extensive roots. However, the extensive roots of this plant species is the reason it is an excellent choice for erosion control.
