Cliff Rose
CLIFF ROSE
Purshia stansburiana (=Cowania)

Part of the Rose family, Cliffrose is a beautiful, showy shrub that grows in mountainous terrain in the Southwest. The shrub is an important food source ecologically for deer, elk, pronghorn, desert bighorn sheep, and livestock especially in the Winter. Historically, Cliffrose was also important to Native Americans who used the plant as a dermatological wash for wounds, as a fiber to produce clothing, as a dye (when mixed with Juniper), and also shredded and stuffed into sacks to make pillows.
