Desert Hackberry
DESERT HACKBERRY
Celtis pallida (=ehrenbergiana)

This is a relatively non-ornamental medium-sized desert native shrub that is generally found only in desert landscapes, desert restoration projects, or native plantings. However, it does produce edible fruit that can be eaten raw and provides food and shelter for small mammals, deer, birds and insects such as native honey bees and butterflies. Celtis pallida is a host species for the larvae of the American Snout Butterfly (Libytheana carinenta).
