Shrubby goldeneye is a rounded, multi-branched, perennial sub-shrub to 2 ft. tall. Stems are densely covered with sharp, stiff hairs and tuber-like projections. Solitary or small-clustered flower heads occur on long stems projecting from the branch tips. The yellow, radiate flowers are 2 in. across.
