Snakeweed
SNAKEWEED
Gutierrezia sarothrae

Snakeweed is a subshrub that produces clusters of yellow flowers. Although considered a weed by the Livestock industry (due to its toxicity to livestock if eaten in large quantities), it is a plant of value for much native wildlife - mostly small mammals and birds for food, shelter and protection. Historically, this plant was also utilized by many Native American tribes for various applications such as treating coughs, colds, dizziness, and muscle aches.
