I understand that I will contribute my services without compensation in wages. This volunteer service will not confer on me the status of a City employee, except Tort Claims Act and Workers' Compensation Act.

I certify that I will perform the volunteer service in compliance with the standards and specifications established and approved by Lake Havasu City and will honor the direction of the City to suspend or terminate service.

I authorize Lake Havasu City to investigate all references and to secure additional information about me as needed. I hereby release from liability Lake Havasu City and its representatives for seeking such information and all other persons, corporations or organizations furnishing such information.

I understand that my driving and/or criminal records, if any, will be obtained and reviewed by Lake Havasu City.

Park Host(s) further understand that Lake Havasu City may remove you and your belongings from the park at any time without notice.

I understand that Lake Havasu City is under no obligation to accept any or all interested volunteers and may retain my interest for up to one (1) year from date of submission.

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT

  • General Office Assistance - Administrative Services has opportunities for general office assistance.  The volunteer assignments could include routine filing, data entry, printing and collating documents, answering the phone, and other similar administrative tasks.  The tasks assigned would depend on the availability of the volunteer, skills and background of the volunteer and the needs of the department. 
  • Lobby Greeter - Greeters welcome customers of City Hall, provide general information and direct visitors to the appropriate City department or official. The ideal volunteer will enjoy talking to City visitors and residents, be knowledgeable about Lake Havasu City or have a desire to learn more about how the City operates, and be willing to volunteer for selected hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

CONSOLIDATED COURTS

  • Veterans Court Mentor - assisting Veterans Court Clerk in clerical duties, such as, filing, phone calls, making copies, assisting in organizing events and assisting in community service projects with the Veterans.
  • Youth Court - assisting in Youth Court by working alongside justice involved youths performing Community Service projects. Clerical duties are also available such as coordinating community service projects and assisting the Youth Court Team.
  • General Office Assistance - general clerical duties, such as, filing, envelope stuffing, making copies, and sending faxes.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

  • Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) - Provides rehab activities at fire scenes and multi-agency operations; provides basic first aid standby at events; community programs.
  • General Office Assistance - Could include filing, answering phones, making copies, scanning, and data entry.
  • Previously Approved Specialty Program – Fire service retirees or other fire service specialists that offer high-demand skills may be considered for volunteer opportunities. (Must be previously approved by Lake Havasu City Fire Department)
  • Public Education Assistant - Provides assistance to the Public Education Specialist during various fire and life safety training and educational activities.
  • Volunteer Inspector Program (VIP) - conducts “B” occupancy and non-complex fire sprinkler systems inspections.

PARK HOST

  • Park Hosts receive a full hook-up site free of charge in exchange for volunteer service, which may include light park clean-up, providing information to park visitors, encouraging compliance of park rules and regulations, and assisting the Maintenance Services Division with minor tasks. Park hosts are asked to stay a minimum of eight (8) weeks with a maximum of six (6) months. Park host opportunities are available at Dick Samp Park, London Bridge Beach, Rotary Park, Sara Park and Site 6.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

  • General Office Assistance - Various assignments may include filing, data entry, printing and collating documents, quality assurance checking, and document shredding.
  • COP (Citizens on Patrol) - Non-sworn citizen volunteers to assist with various functions such as traffic control, vacation and business checks, and handicap parking enforcement.  Training varies on average from 24 to 40 hours in addition to First Aid and CPR requirements.  On average, C.O.P.’s donate from 12 to 16 hours per month.
  • Police Cadets (Age 14-20) - These officers mentor the Cadets and help them in preparing for a career in Law Enforcement by developing a fundamental understanding of police procedures, duties, and concepts.
  • Previously approved specialty program – Police Chaplain Program or SWAT Medic, must be previously approved by LHCPD

RECREATION VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Recreation, After School Programs and Summer Camps - Assisting children ages 3-14 with homework, reading, educational and physical activities, coaching, teaching and mentoring.
  • Youth Coaching - officiating and coaching children ages 5-14 in flag football, basketball and cheerleading.
  • Special Events - assisting recreation staff with event setup and teardown, cooking, serving, monitoring the entrance and exit of events, assisting with various activities.

VICTIM ADVOCATE

  • Description - Provide court related assistance to misdemeanor crime victims.  Victims’ rights cases cover a broad range of charges, but include primarily domestic violence cases.  Volunteers attend arraignments either with the victim or on the victim’s behalf and advise the Court of victim’s position regarding sentencing or release conditions. Volunteers may also provide community referrals to victims.
  • Requirements - Volunteers must be empathetic with the ability to communicate with compassion and concern, maintain client confidentiality, have an interest in the criminal justice system, and have no criminal history.
  • Time requirement - Volunteers provide advocacy for weekend and holiday arraignments and are rotated so that volunteers assist approximately 2-4 weekend days per month. For weekend appearances, the volunteer must contact the jail by 7:00 a.m. to determine if there are any victims’ rights cases, contact the victim, and attend the arraignment at 8:00 a.m. Holiday court times vary.  Arraignments take approximately 30 minutes.

WATER CONSERVATION

  • Water conservation volunteers assist in a variety of different assignments such as public events and fairs (Winterfest, the Homeshow, the Fall Fun Fair, Master Gardener’s Day etc.), helping with community projects (City gardening/landscaping projects), being a part of our photography/videography committee to help create promotional material for our website, and helping the city conduct water pressure checks or rebate inspections.
