Lake Havasu City Awarded Phase II Award for Innovation by Water Environment Federation
December 29, 2017

Lake Havasu City is proud to announce it was recently awarded the “Silver Level in Innovation and Project Management” Phase II Award by the Water Environment Federation (WEF). The National Municipal Stormwater and Green Infrastructure Awards program is led by the WEF through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to recognize high-performing regulated Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer Systems (MS4).

Lake Havasu City’s MS4 was selected by WEF as a winner of “Innovation” for one of three Phase II communities selected. Phase ll communities are defined based on total population and must comply with federal regulations of the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System, obtain a permit from their state regulating authority, develop and maintain a Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) which satisfies compliance with the “Clean Water Act - CWA/40CFR).

This level was selected for Lake Havasu City’s MS4 program based on a rigorous review by the committee, and provides a comparative benchmarking level for our community. Lake Havasu City’s SWMP has made great strides during the 2017 calendar year. On May 31, 2017, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) issued continued authorization to Lake Havasu City to discharge stormwater from its MS4. Lake Havasu City’s MS4 is now operating under Arizona’s 2016 AZPDES Small MS4 General stormwater permit (AZG2016-002).
