Bullhead City Police Officer-Involved Shooting
December 13, 2016

On December 11, 2016 at approximately 7:58 P.M. Bullhead City Police officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Alta Vista Road after receiving a 9-1-1 call indicating there was going to be a shooting at the location.  The female caller advised she was going to shoot her girlfriend and then herself.

At approximately 8:04 P.M. the first police officer arrived on scene.   A short time later, the officer encountered a female subject outside of the residence who pointed a handgun at the officer.  The officer discharged his duty weapon multiple times, striking the female.  During the investigation, the handgun was discovered to be a black airsoft gun which appeared to be a replica of a semi-automatic pistol.

The 44-year old female was transported to the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased approximately one hour later.   Two occupants of the residence were unharmed during the incident.    No other officers were involved in the shooting.

Detectives from the Lake Havasu City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit have been called in to conduct the investigation and responded to the scene late Sunday evening.  It is customary for the Bullhead City Police Department to have an outside police agency investigate an officer involved shooting incident. The officer was placed on routine administrative leave, which is also common with an officer involved shooting incident.

The investigation by the Lake Havasu City Police Department detectives is on-going and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
