These signs register the speed of approaching vehicles and display it alongside the posted speed limit, giving drivers an immediate visual reminder of how fast they are traveling. The intent is to encourage safer driving habits and reduce speeding on key roadways throughout the city.
Speed feedback signs are widely recognized as an effective safety tool. By increasing driver awareness, they help lower vehicle speeds and improve overall roadway safety, particularly in areas with higher traffic volumes.
The signs are part of a larger transportation safety effort identified through the Lake Havasu Metropolitan Planning Organization's long-range planning, which prioritizes roadway upgrades and safety investments over a five-year period outlined in the region's Transportation Improvement Plan.
In total, 26 speed feedback signs are installed citywide, with four on SR95. Funding for the improvements is primarily federal, with a smaller local contribution.
Motorists are reminded that obeying posted speed limits helps reduce the severity of crashes and keeps Lake Havasu City’s roads safer for everyone.
