The public is invited to an open house to discuss the upcoming HAWK Pedestrian Signal Project on Monday, November 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Smoketree Elementary School, located at 2395 Smoketree Avenue North. The open house gives residents an opportunity to meet City and Metropolitan Planning Organization (LHMPO) staff and get more information regarding this project.   

The HAWK (High Intensity Activated Crosswalk) Signal is planned to be installed at the intersection of Acoma Boulevard North and Pima Drive North to improve pedestrian safety.  A HAWK signal is a Pedestrian Traffic Signal used to stop traffic when activated by pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.  This location has experienced pedestrian accidents including a fatality.  This project is funded by a Highway Safety Improvement Grant at no cost to the City and will be administered by ADOT. Studies have shown that HAWK signals are highly effective in reducing accidents. It’s expected to be completed by August of 2020 and will be the first HAWK signal in Lake Havasu City.
