LAKE HAVASU CITY POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT

On Thursday, May 12, 2022 at approximately 9:36 p.m. Lake Havasu City Police Department officers responded to the 3400 block of Big Chief Dr. for a report of a shooting that had just occurred. Multiple officers responded to the scene and discovered that 28 year old Thane Stanley and 56 year old Richard Sikkenga (both Lake Havasu City residents) were involved in a domestic altercation at the location. During the altercation Sikkenga produced a handgun and shot Stanley. Sikkenga then called 9-1-1 and reported the incident. Responding officers attempted life saving measures but Stanley succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Detectives from Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene and conducted the investigation. Sikkenga made a self-defense claim regarding the shooting and the case is still under investigation by detectives. The case will be submitted to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office when completed. There have been no arrests made regarding the incident at this time.
