On January 6, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Lake Havasu City Police Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Moyo Dr. regarding a weapons offense that occurred near Walmart (5695 N. Highway 95). During the investigation, it was learned that two Lake Havasu City victims were confronted by two male subjects who were occupying a dark colored pickup truck while driving out of the parking lot. The victims were exiting the parking lot when they heard four shots being fired from the direction of the pickup truck. It was found that neither of the victims, nor the vehicle, were struck.

It was then learned that another victim observed the same pickup truck on Moyo Dr., which is believed to have been responsible for the shooting near Walmart. An occupant in the truck then shot at and struck this victim’s vehicle, causing damage to this victim’s vehicle’s windshield.

At around 11:50 p.m. the truck believed to be involved in the shooting was located by patrol officers within the 3100 block of Maracaibo Dr. Officers were able to identify a 16-year-old male (Lake Havasu City resident) as well as a 14-year-old male (Lake Havasu City resident), as the suspects in this investigation, who were in the vehicle upon contact.

Prior to the above-mentioned shooting investigations, Lake Havasu City Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a pickup truck (later found to have been related to the shooting investigation). The driver in the truck fled from officers at this time and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle was ultimately able to elude officers. After the shooting investigation, and contact with the mentioned juveniles, it was found that the 16-year-old male was the driver of the truck in the pursuit.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation’s Unit began investigating the incident. As a result of the investigation, the 16-year-old juvenile and the 14-year-old juvenile were both arrested for four counts of attempted homicide and four counts of conducting a drive-by-shooting. The 16-year-old was additionally charged with unlawful flight, criminal speed, and reckless driving. The firearm used in connection with this investigation was found to be a .22 caliber rifle, which was recovered for evidence.

Both juveniles were transported to the custody of the Mohave County Juvenile Detention Center.
