AIRPORT RUNWAY REHABILITATION CLOSURE
April 18, 2023

The Lake Havasu City Municipal Airport is preparing for the upcoming runway closure. The closure is in effect from 12:01 a.m. on May 1, 2023 until June 11, 2023. The airport is closed to general aviation operations during this period.

The airport received $5,839,970 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to rehabilitate its runway. This funding source is to cover the expenses necessary to maintain the airport’s infrastructure.

The runway, which hasn't seen improvements since 2013, is going to be completely milled up, down to the base material and replaced with 2 lifts of 3" each of P-401 asphalt, for a 6" thick all new finished product. Additionally, all new pavement markings are to be applied, including freshening up of the 'chevrons' on each end of the runway.

Crews with Sunland Asphalt and Construction are working diligently positioning materials and equipment to begin work immediately following the closure. The 42-day closure, which includes an aggressive work schedule, limits the impact to the airport users. The runway will not be lengthened or widened during the reconstruction.
